Life before Photography
Its been so busy with work and family, that photography has taken a back seat since August 2024.
I would of liked to of done a photography trip by now. Life doesn’t get in the way of these things, its just life. There are a plethora of other things more important to do. I’ve missed the solitude and enjoying all that the outside can give you on a photography trip, but when it comes to it, I just can’t justify the expense. Its not that its just the cost of living, its just making the wisest choices. Hopefully I’ll manage some photography time in 2025 making an image or two if I get the chance.
Ideally I’d like to make more film images this year, and to try and concentrate on taking images that work together as a set. I’d like to do more intimate portraits of the landscape, rather than the wider view.
I want to start shooting slide film again. I was never a fan of Fuji Velvia 50, preferring Provia 100F, but that is too expensive now. Im going to use Kodak E100 as my preferred choice. It looks a great neutral film, and with a warming filter when suited, I think this film can give me a great base to then go on and process the scanned film. Another reason for Kodak E100 is that I just dont want to be using Colour Negative Film that much now. I do really like it, especially Kodak Ektar 100, but I have to get it scanned or have a contact sheet made to see the image. I don’t develop at home nor have the right lens on my Fuji GFX 50sII to make digital scans. So at least with slide film, its instant feedback and saves just a few pennies.
I did take a few hours out the other week to go and visit Dungerness where I was working on a small portfolio, but Ive decided to not fulfill that now. There are works going on, more expensive designer house builds, and for me its losing its sense of place and character.
I’m hoping to get to Norfolk this month, now the sun has moved more North from its southern winter dive, as I have a few images in my minds eye I’d like to try.
Locally though, I really struggle with photography. Yes I know, getting out and really hunting for images you say will make you a better photographer. I used to think that and I’ve really tried to get out there. But its simply not true. You have to go where the images are.
But thats life I guess!
I do hope you all are blessed, and I do wish you all all blessings for 2025.
